The Ogboni (also known as Osugbo in Ijèbú) is a fraternal institution indigenous to the Yoruba language-speaking polities of Nigeria, Republic of Bénin and Togo.
The society is regarded by some as the most powerful secret organization in Nigeria.
Recently a photo of how the secret society’s membership form looked like in July 1955 surfaced online. This was five years before Nigeria got her independence precisely 60 years ago.
See photo of the Ogboni society form as obtained by Abiyamo.com:
The form which has an insignia of a skeleton, coffin and club on it, had spaces for name, sex, age, education, tribe, family history, occupation, financial position, any other society the person belonged to, the name of the nominator, the date of membership and the name of the president.
However, there was no space for the religion of the member as Ogbonis do not consider religious affiliation and anyone is free to join irrespective of religious beliefs.
