A group of no fewer than 16 civil society organisations (CSOs) and faith based organisations (FBOs) has vowed to bring Prophet TB Joshua of Synagogue of All Nations and the two engineers indicted in the 2014 building collapse to justice.
Addressing journalists at the end of its emergency meeting in Abuja on Thursday, Kazeem Mustapha who spoke on behalf of the group, disclosed that the meeting was aimed at fine-tuning the plan to ensure that justice prevailed in the case of Synagogue building collapse.
Mustapha noted that the delayed justice in the matter was already putting severe strains on the relationship between Nigeria and South Africa, considering the fact that 84 out of the 115 persons that lost their lives were South Africans.
He said the South African authorities were beginning to doubt the political will and capacity of both the Lagos State Government and the Nigerian Government to bring the culprits to justice.
“We met today to fine-tune our plan to ensure that Prophet TB Joshua and the two engineers indicted by a Coroner’s inquest into the collapse of the six-storied building belonging to the Synagogue of All Nations are made to face the full wrath of the law.
“They should be charged for manslaughter and building without approval. Prophet TB Joshua and these engineers are not, in any way, above the law. In fact, no one is above the law. If you commit a crime or offence, you should pay! Even if it requires you going to jail.
“In the coming weeks, we are going to move all out across the major cities in the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), calling for quick dispensation of justice. We are also calling on the government and corporate organisations to steer clear of the matter.
“We will use all instruments at our disposals to fight for this particular justice, irrespective of tribe, tongue or religion. We will mobilise our members across the country for this cause,” the CSOs said.
