One of the lawyers defending former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki has linked ex-president Goodluck Jonathan to the current arms deal investigation.

Ahmed Raji, Dasuki’s lawyer, noted that the arms deal investigation cannot be discussed without reference to the former president.

“The national security adviser will normally carry out the instructions of his president,” he told AFP.

“You cannot talk about this matter without talking about President Jonathan,” Raji added.

It is uncertain if the incumbent leader of the nation Muhammadu Buhari will prosecute his predecessor while many political experts saying that Buhari will most likely not to do so.

When Buhari was elected as the president in 2015, he said in his acceptance speech that “President Jonathan has nothing to fear from me.”

But with the arraignment of a powerful member of Jonathan’s government, the ex-president could yet be dragged into the case.

However, the presidency announced that Jonathan will be forced to face justice if he’s found guilty of any corruption charges.

Dasuki is standing trial in different courts to answer charges bordering on supposed diversion of $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of arms for the fight against the deadly Boko Haram sect.
