The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has ordered personnel of the scheme to declare their assets in line with the code of conduct for public officers.

The NYSC boss gave the directive at the opening ceremony of its 2016 Annual Management Conference (AMC) in Asaba, Delta State capital.
He said the NYSC management had been very consistent in the enforcement of periodic assets declaration by members of staff as well as ensuring strict adherence to policy guidelines in all aspects of the scheme’s operations.
He said: “I therefore wish to commend the political class, security agencies, and the electorate for their support to Corps members during the exercise. We assure all Nigerians that given such opportunity in the future, we will not disappoint the nation,” he added.
Recounting the achievements of the scheme in 2015, Olawumi noted that the NYSC launched the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) which would assist Nigeria contain the spread of lassa fever.
He said: “Last year, the scheme through the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, (HIRD) lunched a holistic medical outreach targeted at the rural poor. The programme which is designed to take the primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria to a higher level will be sustained in view of the recent outbreak of Lassa fever disease in 17 states of the federation because of the wide spread of corps members in the 774 local governments of the country.”
The said the NYSC had installed latest security chips that could track a distressed caller easily, and went on to advise corps members to always call the NYSC distress call centre whenever the need arises
He also urged stakeholders, especially corporate bodies and individual philanthropists to assist towards sustaining the NYSC Hope Alive Initiative which was introduced with the aim of providing succour to corps members who suffer permanent disability during the service year.
Olawumi further stated that the NYSC would soon conduct its orientation course for prospective corps members on a quarterly basis to accommodate the increasing number of graduates being turned out by accredited institutions for the scheme.
