Dimeji Bankole, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has expressed his desire to revive the Ogun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Premium Times reports that Bankole made this disclosure while hosting many of his supporters on Friday, January 15, 2016.
The former Speaker, who warned against imposition of candidates by party leaders, floated the new group, Dimeji Bankole Movement, and hosted his teeming fans and supporters to a new year party at his residence in Onikolobo area of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
After neing rumoured to be interested in the governorship race in 2015 in the state, Bankole suspended his bid after Buruji Kashamu, who was said to be the key financier of the party, insisted on Gboyega Isiaka as the party flag bearer.
“It is almost two years now. I commend your perseverance. I now know the differences. The outcome of the congress would determine the political future of PDP in the state,” Bankole said of the congress to be held to restore the party in the state.
Having declared that he had no intentions of quitting the party, Bankole went into a closed-door meeting with senior members of his political group from the various local government areas in the state.
