Chief Ateke Tom, a former militant leader in the Niger Delta region, has denied reports that he gave President Muhammadu Buhari a 14-day ultimatum to establish the Republic of Biafra or he (Tom), would resume militancy.

According to Leadership, Tom who spoke through Ifeanyi Ogbonna, his spokesperson, also debunked media reports that he held a meeting with leaders of IPOB and other groups pushing for the sovereignty of Biafra.

The leader of the defunct Niger Delta Vigilante (NDV), therefore warned members of the public to stop using his pictures unauthorised while also stating that he never threatened to declare war on Buhari-led government.

He blamed the stories and rumours on his detractors, and instead asked Nigerians to support President Buhari’s administration.

“The High Chief has no time for such talk and he has been in his village of Okrika and has nothing to do with any Biafra meeting. Nigerians should be patient with the Buhari-led government and support him. Buhari is a good man; he is a peace-loving man,” the spokesperson was quoted to have said.

Meanwhile, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) on Friday, January 15, asked the federal government to release the director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, no later than Monday, January 18 or face serious demonstrations all over the country.
