The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appears to have abandoned the embattled national publicity secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh after the party said it will not provide sureties for Metuh’s bail application.
Metuh who is facing charges for allegedly collecting N400m from Dasuki, an offence the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) described as money laundering, was handcuffed for the third time yesterday, January 22 at the Federal High Court In Abuja.
He was however granted bail in the sum N300m and two sureties in like sum for tearing up his statement.
But in a twist, the deputy national publicity secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo, told The Punch on Friday, January 22, that the party will not provide sureties for Metuh since he was being prosecuted for offences that have nothing to do with it.
He said, “Metuh didn’t represent the party in the alleged crimes he’s being prosecuted. The party didn’t benefit from the alleged crime.
“So, he is going to look for sureties himself. We won’t be involved. He would carry his own cross alone, without the party being involved.”
However, friends and associates Metuh were doing everything possible to get the sureties as demanded by the courts, according to the national legal adviser of the party, Victor Kwon,
Meanwhile widespread condemnation has trailed the hancuffing of Olisa Metuh by the Nigeria Prison Service (NPS).
Several PDP members have described the handcuffing of the national publicity secretary of their party, Olisa Metuh, by the NPS as a gross abuse of human liberty.
They have also accused President Muhammadu Buhari of using the anti-corruption agencies and other institutions of state to subject accused persons like Metuh to inhuman treatment.
