A former Nigeria’s president, Olusegun Obasanjo has reacted to the video showing an officer of the State Security Services (SSS) shinning the shoes of the minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau.
Obasanjo via his twitter, @segunobasanjo page said it is an eyesore for a security officer to be turned into a shoe shiner by the minister.
“It’s an eyesore to see how a security officer was turned to a SHOE SHINER by Gen. Dambazau. There’s no justification for such disgusting act,” Obasanjo tweeted.
He added that: “It’s really dehumanizing for a minister to have a security officer clean his shoe in public. This is not the CHANGE Nigerians voted for!”
In a short video that went viral over the weekend, Dambazau was seen stretching his legs out while his aide, an SSS officer rubbed dust off his shoes with a white handkerchief.
Nigerians have also reacted to the shoe shinning saga with many saying it is only madness that will make anyone defend Dambazau’s embarrassing action.
Dambazau, a retired lieutenant general was appointed minister of interior under the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
He was also the chief of army staff between 2008 and 2010.
During his tenure in 2010, Dambazau withdrew all soldiers at the presidential villa to escort the body of the late president Musa Yar’adua back to Abuja without an authorization from the then acting president, Goodluck Jonathan.
Also, in 2010, the former chief of army staff was implicated in a financial fraud of awarding N9 billion peacekeeping contracts to companies allegedly owned by former Delta state governor James Ibori and an Israeli arms supplier, Alon Neiken.
