The Nigerian Labour Congress, Ekiti chapter, has warned  President Muhammadu Buhari against concentrating solely on politicians, if  he was determined and  desirous of making his anti-graft war successful.

The labour union appealed to President Buhari to extend the dragnet of his anti-graft War to the civil service, Police , military and other paramilitary agencies, to remove the seeming vestiges of selectivity from the fight.

The Chairman of the NLC in Ekiti, Com. Ade Adesanmi , noted  that Buhari’s efforts to clean up the system was highly commendable, but emphasised the need for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission not to concentrate efforts on politicians alone while other sectors are neglected.

Adesanmi, who spoke in Ado Ekiti  on Friday  during a chat with newsmen, said the country’s civil service and the paramilitary  are populated with people  with high proclivities  for corrupt practices and that focus should be on that critical sectors.

The labour leader said   the politicians from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party would continue to brand the anti-corruption war to be a game of vendetta, if the EFCC and other allied agencies focus attention solely on former political leaders.

He advised the Buhari’s administration to make the war total, by ensuring that those who had allegedly plundered the country’s resources at all levels were made to face the wrath of the law.

“I want to commend President Buhari for his anti-corruption stand. If you look at it critically, all these revelations would not have come to the fore if the president hds not taken time to open up this can of worms about how our resources were plundered by few individuals .

“But the president must direct the EFCC and ICPC to do more. They must not focus attentions on politicians alone because that was why the PDP was reading meanings to their actions that only their people were being arrested.

“Let there be arrest of corrupt civil servants, police officers , customs officers,  men of the Nigeria Army members of the ruling APC , diplomats and even up to the local governments.

“We cannot pretend that there are no corrupt civil servants in this country. We need to get at them as well because not only the politicians are corrupt .

“I believe President Buhari is trying but he needs to do more because corruption has permeated everywhere and if they are trying to focus only on the politicians, then the fight will be like just scratching the surface without digging deep in addressing it”, he said.
