Following recent reports of an increase in violence orchestrated by cultists in Lagos, the state government has re-affirmed that it will ensure cultist are ousted from the state and cultism is eradicated within the metropolis.

The Lagos State Government (LSG), on Wednesday, January 27, reiterated its determination to deal decisively with anyone found engaged in cultism and criminal activities as it has directed the law enforcement agencies to ensure that such unwholesome practices are dealt with the maximum force it deserves.

According to the statement signed by the state commissioner for information and strategy, Steve Ayorinde, the government stated that it would henceforth go tough with any cult member or group, sponsors or collaborators, as well as criminal gangs disturbing the peace of the state.

Adding that it would not fold its arms and watch innocent citizens suffer unduly in the hands of unscrupulous elements.

“Henceforth, they will be treated as murderers and arsonists as the case may be,” the statement read.

The statement said that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, has directed the state police command to use appropriate force to fish out and deal decisively with any individual or group of persons involved in cult activities and criminal gangs wherever they may be in the state.

It reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to improve security and protect lives and properties of the citizens and therefore warned all criminally-minded individuals not to test the will of the government as it will be unrelent in applying the Law on anyone that indulges in illegal dredging, street fighting or anyone found threatening the safety and peaceful co-existence of Lagos residents.

The statement also urged parents and guardians to keep watchful eyes on their children and wards, admonishing that parents must try to know their young ones move with, in order not to run short of the law.
