The first series of politicians who were assassinated in 2015 was brought to you a few days ago. This particular write up is the concluding part of the series.
The first series highlighted 10 politicians who were assassinated. This second series will bring to you another 10 different politicians killed to make a total of 20 politicians.
1. Chief Jeremiah Abu
Chief Abu was a key figure in Kogi state politics. He was also known as the main Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) strategist.
According to the Sun newspaper of September 9, Chief Abu was murdered on the night of September 8 in Ejule area of Ofu local government area. The Sun learnt that he was trailed to his residence at about 7pm and some gunmen who came in an unmarked car suddenly descended on him. They shot him several times in the abdomen before they fled. He was said to have bled to death after the incident as help came very late.
2. Agbatse Tarkighir
The young politician was from Benue state. He was a committed member of the PDP at the ward level of the state. Tarkighir was brutally murdered while he was on his way from Katsina-Ala to Adikpo by unknown assailants who suddenly overtook the bus he was in after and started shooting continuously.
3. Andrew June
The young Bayelsan politician was murdered in unclear circumstances. He was a young politician with so much to offer. It was unfortunate that he could not realise his dreams before he was killed.
4. Goodfellow Bobmanuel
The River state born politician was killed by unidentified gunmen in Abonem, a town in Akuku-Toru local government area on a Saturday night at least 9 months ago. He was the Peoples Democratic Party’s councillorship aspirant for Ward 2 area in Akuku-Toru LGA.
5. Mike Ojor
Ojor was from Ebonyi state. He was a staunch member of the PDP in Ikwo local government area before he fell to the bullets of his assailants.
6. Risikat Bola Amole
The London-based business woman turned politician’s death was very sad. She came all the way from London to test the political waters of Oyo state politics. Her death was captioned by NaijaGists.com of January 16 as “Risikat Bola Amole: Hired Killers Kill London-Based Nigerian Woman in Ibadan.”
The owner of BIMS Nigerian, African Food Store in Peckham, London was the richest Ibadan woman based in London. She came to Oyo state to kick-start her campaign for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives but lost in her bid to secure her party’s ticket. It was reported that she was attacked and killed in her mansion in Iyaganku GRA in Ibadan.
She was in the PDP before she decamped to the Accord Party to seek the ticket for the Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency.
7. Hosea Azi
Azi’s death occurred recently this December. Premium Times of December 12 captioned his death as, “Top Politician Abducted, Murdered In Plateau.”
Azi was the newly appointed transition committee chairman of Jos East local government area of Plateau state. Reports had it that he was initially kidnapped on Friday, December 11 evening on Miango Road in Kufang near the former NYSC secretariat in Jos South local government area before he was later killed by his abductors.
8. Degeh Ayaahembe
He was from Benue state. He was a vibrant politician who was passionate about his political career.
According to the Champions newspaper of March 12, the Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Gbinde village in Ushongo local government area of the state was killed in the evening when another vehicle overtook the bus conveying him and his assailants suddenly opened fire on his bus.
9. Saidu Abdullahi
On November 19, Abdullahi’s death was reported by Today with the caption, “PDP Youth Leader Murdered In Kaduna.” He was the youth leader in Tunruku Ward of Igabi local government area of Kaduna state. According to eyewitness, he was killed on November 18 after his murderers pounced on him and strangled him to death.
It was reported that the suspected hired assassins trailed him when he was on his way to Kaduna metropolis to attend a PDP stakeholders’ meeting at the Arewa Hall. It was at that place that he was ambushed. It was learnt that a cable wire was used to strangle him.
10. Ibima Olunta
The Rivers state politician was killed a few months before the 2015 general elections. He was the PDP chairman for Ward 2 in Akuku-Toru local government area of the state.
