The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has accused its candidate in the just concluded January 9 governorship election in Bayelsa State, Hon. Christopher Inai, of abandoning the contest mid-way to fraternise with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Making the allegation in an interview with THISDAY in Abuja at the weekend, the  party’s National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye, said the candidate took the advantage of the trust the leadership reposed on him to sell-out during the polls.

Oye said: “Our candidate absconded due to greed. He abandoned the mandate given to him to fly the party’s flag and did everything to disorganise the Bayelsa chapter of the party but he has failed.”
Oye said despite the regrettable violence that almost marred the election in the state, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) tried its best to ensure that electorates votes count.

On the conduct of the party’s candidate in the election and its impact on APGA in the state, Oye described the behaviour of the candidate as unbecoming, adding that what he did amounted to betrayal of trust and is condemnable.
“This was a man that came here and sat here and I even paid for his press interview with about N300,000 of my personal fund. He abandoned the party after I gave him my word and admitted him into the party and gave him our ticket.
“Suddenly, he discovered that he could use the party’s platform to make money, so he went to APC and collected money and dumped APGA. He conned us in APGA, took our ticket and went to make money and I pray God to grant him repentance for his sins.”

While speaking on the  outcome of the two governorship polls in Kogi and Bayelsa State, Oye said APGA was impressed by what transpired despite the hitches associated with them.

The APGA National Chairman also spoke on the victory of the party at the Supreme Court, saying the judgment has not only affirmed his leadership of APGA but  also consolidated the victory of Governor Willie Obiano as the Governor of Anambra.
He said the reason the party had always won its cases in court was that it tries to avoid engaging in frivolous litigations that have no truth behind them.

“The reason is that we don’t engage in frivolous litigation. What we do in APGA, we stand for the truth and we champion the motor of party-be your brothers and sisters keeper.
“We also try as much as possible to reduce tension in the party and build fraternity among our party members. I run an open administration and anyone who feels he has anything to contribute to the party is free to do so.
“With this victory, the coast is now clear for us to implement our three point agenda for the party. As you can see, APGA is now a household name in Nigeria. Within seven month of our coming on board, we have been able to build a formidable political party that is now visible across the country and in fact globally.

“As we speak, we have over 23 branches of APGA all over the world. We are in Indonesia, Malasiya, UK, US, Ghana, the Gambia and Benin Republic. We look forward to building a party which will be the envy of all Nigerians,” he said.
